This quote from Mother Teresa sounds almost incongruous in our modern world, where everyone is running after something
Particularly in large cities: people cross each other in total indifference, nobody cares about anybody and beggars cause more discomfort than compassion.
Yet one of the keys to happiness is to stop just 5 minutes and ask what you can do to help somehow another human being, who was perhaps less lucky than us.
I am on Boracay island, where local people don’t want to get tanned, because poor people do since they stay all day in the sun (note the irony of the situation, western people want to get tanned because only people who have the chance to go on sunny holidays get tanned)
On the picture above you can see two young children who were begging.
I was buying a delicious Mango Fruit Shake, and rather than being indifferent, I was wondering how to give these two children some good time…
I offered them a Mango Fruit Shake, and you can see how much pleasure they had:
1. by consciously savor the Fruit Shake
2. by unconsciously see a stranger who gave them the attention and affection
3. share this delicious moment together
For me, Life rewarded me in three ways:
1. Seeing their smiles was awesome
2. I felt happy with my gesture, and see the lovely effect on them
3. This simple action gives me the opportunity to love myself even more, which also allows others to love me
In this Christmas time, here’s what you can do and it will bring you great happiness:
Gather all clothes you no longer use, and bring them back to life, by giving them to an association for homeless people in your city.
This simple gesture will give you much more happiness, love and connection to life than all the gifts you will receive for Christmas…
